At MISI, we believe fellowships are powerful vehicles for change. By bringing together researchers, practitioners, and community leaders with diverse perspectives, our programs create space for new collaborations and insights that wouldn’t emerge in isolation. Fellows challenge one another, share knowledge across fields, and deepen their ability to communicate complexity in public life.

We support three paths into the one-year fellowship:

Research

We provide direct research seed funding to advance innovative projects in media, democracy, and social impact. These fellowships are designed to catalyze new lines of inquiry, build momentum for larger initiatives, and strengthen the research ecosystem across Boston University and beyond.

Public Humanities

Our public humanities fellows are humanities faculty at BU who want to translate their expertise for broader audiences and apply it directly to climate justice in New England. We support them in shaping public conversations, making academic insights accessible, and demonstrating the vital role of humanistic knowledge in addressing urgent societal challenges.

Community Impact

Our Community Impact Fellows are artists, activists, and leaders in environmental and climate justice across New England. They are rooted in community practice, and we work alongside them to expand their approaches to communicating complexity, amplify their narratives, and connect their work with broader publics and institutional partners.
