Jenai Engelhard Humphreys is a lecturer of Rhetoric at the College of General Studies at Boston University. Jenai specializes in 19th to 21st century French literature, thought, and culture, with focuses on literary decadence and African studies. She is also a creative nonfiction writer and essayist with a master’s in journalism. In addition to teaching various French and writing courses across BU, she has taught English composition and translation at France’s Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon. For MISI, Jenai is investigating the history of dance activism in the United States: specifically, the way dance functions as resistance and political protest, particularly for African Americans. As a complement to this project, she is guest editing a special issue on arts activism for Impact, the journal of the Center for Interdisciplinary Teaching & Learning at Boston University.
