One of the things that awakens people to climate action is attention to their own local environment. Here in Boston, many of us have memories of winters where snow fell early and stayed on the ground. And now we’ve reached a point where we’re almost anticipating ‘will I actually need snow boots this year?’

Irit Kleiman is an associate professor of romance studies at Boston University. She teaches courses on the literatures and cultures of medieval and Renaissance France in a global context and is a faculty member in the BU Core Curriculum in the Humanities. Her interdisciplinary research seeks to understand the relationship between writing, culture, and law in the shaping of historical narrative, often through the lens of psychoanalytic theory.
With MISI, Irit began writing a new collection of short essays titled “Where does transgression begin?”, which explore representations of forest spaces in art and literature alongside experiences that resist representation. Additionally, she is planning a series of environmental-themed poetry events held in green spaces, combining literary practice with ecological engagement and public space.
