About Us

Welcome to the URBAN ARCH Consortium Website! I invite you to explore our website to learn more about the exciting alcohol and HIV research being conducted by the URBAN ARCH Consortium, and to contact us if you are interested in collaborating.

In the fourth decade of the HIV epidemic, many questions remain about how alcohol use affects HIV clinical manifestations, how treatments beyond ART might mitigate alcohol-related harms, and about alcohol’s direct causal impact on both behavioral and biological outcomes. With funding from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) we have an opportunity to explore these issues as one of a small number of consortia of clinical research in the field of HIV/AIDS and alcohol – the NIAAA Consortiums for HIV/AIDS and Alcohol Research Translation (CHAART) initiative. The research projects being pursued as part of the URBAN ARCH Consortium span three continents and expand on existing cohorts of HIV-infected individuals to answer key questions in the field. We hope that this website will allow us to share information about the unique constellation of URBAN ARCH research activities with both interested individuals (to advance general knowledge in this realm) and with clinical and basic researchers (to enable new collaborations to advance new knowledge).

Thank you for visiting our website!!
