Gallery: Men’s hockey narrowly squeezes past Northeastern to reach Beanpot Championship
In the opening game to defend their Beanpot title, the Boston University men’s hockey team scored two equalizers and won the shootout over the Northeastern University Huskies to advance to the final against their rival Boston College Eagles. The Huskies struck first with a power play goal in the first period, but freshman forward Jonathan Morello redirected a shot from freshman defenseman Charlie Tretheway from distance in the second minute of the second period to tie the game. Northeastern quickly found their second lead, but again, the Terriers answered with the second goal scored by sophomore forward Nick Roukounakis on an odd-man rush in the eighth minute of the middle period. There was no score for the remainder of regulation and overtime, so the winner was decided by a shootout. Sophomore goaltender Mikhail Yegorov made two saves, while junior forward Jack Harvey and sophomore defenseman Cole Hutson both cashed in on their attempts.
