Boston University Women’s Ice Hockey 6-11-3, 5-6-2 HE) closed out its final game before the Beanpot with a 2-1 road win over the New Hampshire Wildcats(11-9-3, 5-6-2 HE), powered by senior forward Sydney Healey’s game-winner and a composed performance from graduate goaltender Michelle Pasiechnyk.
“It was a good team effort,” BU Assistant Coach Megan Myers said. “UNH is a hard place to play… [Pasiechnyk] played a great game.”
UNH generated the first looks of the night, testing Pasiechnyk early through chances from Kelly Harty and the top line, but BU quickly answered with shots from Sydney and Luisa Welcke, Tessa Demain, and Maeve Carey. The Terriers earned their first power play yet fell behind when Harty scored shorthanded at 13:21 to put the Wildcats up 1-0.
BU responded before the intermission. After killing off a late penalty and weathering a series of UNH pushes, the Terriers tied it when junior forward Luisa Welcke buried an even-strength chance at the back post off a feed from senior forward Riley Walsh, sending the teams to the room level at 1-1.
The Terriers tightened their game as the night went on. They killed an early tripping minor on Carey to start the second, then began to tilt the ice with extended offensive-zone shifts led by the Nicholson–Walsh–Yuhn line and the Welcke twins. A cross‑checking penalty on UNH’s Kristen Hartman gave BU another power play, and though the Terriers did not convert, they generated multiple looks and kept the Wildcats under pressure.
Soon after that advantage expired, Healey broke the deadlock. Just past the midway point of the game, she jumped on a loose puck in the offensive zone and ripped home her 11th of the season for the eventual game-winner. Myers called it “basically a power‑play hangover goal” and said the unit is “building momentum” even without scoring yet.
From there, BU leaned on its structure and goaltending. The Terriers continued to outshoot UNH while Pasiechnyk turned aside chances from Harty, Aurora Kahlert and Nina Rossi, controlling rebounds and slowing the Wildcats’ push. BU’s penalty kill came up big again in the third after an interference call on Keira Healey, sealing another successful night for a unit that handled multiple UNH opportunities.
“Having two good goaltenders builds trust,” Myers said, noting that even when Pasiechnyk hasn’t started, “she shows it every day in practice,” and that work “translated in today’s game.”
UNH pulled goaltender Sedona Blair for an extra attacker in the final minutes, but BU handled the six‑on‑five calmly, winning key draws through Lilli Welcke and clearing the zone when it mattered. Pasiechnyk made the final stop at the horn to lock in the 2-1 result and another confidence-building performance heading into Beanpot week.
“We needed to handle business today,” Myers said. “We had composure, we played our game and worked together as a team to get through three periods.”
The Terriers will face off against Northeastern on Tuesday in the first round of the Beanpot with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 P.M. Streaming will be available on ESPN+.
