Gallery: Men’s hockey lose overtime thriller to Michigan State
Looking to split the series with the Michigan State Spartans after the 2-4 loss on Friday, the Boston University men’s hockey team fell in overtime with a 4-3 loss. Down 2-0 going into the third period, junior defenseman and captain Gavin McCarthy scored for the Terriers three minutes in to the period. However, Michigan State responded within a minute later to make the score 3-1. Still behind by two goals in the last 10 minutes, sophomore forward Kamil Bednarik scored a shorthanded goal to make it a one-goal game. Two minutes later, freshman forward Conrad Fondrk tipped in a shot from sophomore defenseman Sascha Boumedienne, to score his first career goal as a Terrier and tie the game at 3-3. Neither team scored in the last five minutes of the third period, sending the game to overtime. Three minutes into overtime, sophomore forward Cole Eiserman fired a one-timer that was swept away from the goal line by Michigan State’s sophomore forward Shane Vansaghi. BU was inches away from winning in the overtime, but the Spartans ended the weekend series with a goal from their captain and senior defenseman Matt Basgall.
