Wrapping up the month of September, the Boston University Women’s Soccer Team (3-4-2, 0-1-0 PL) welcomes Loyola Maryland (3-2-4, 0-0-1 PL) to Nickerson Field on Saturday for their first home game of the season.
With back-to-back undefeated Patriot League campaigns out the window, the Terriers look to break their five game winless skid and pick up their first league victory of the year.
Likewise, the Greyhounds started the season in a similar fashion to the Terriers, winning three of their first nine games — and also failing to pick up a victory in their opening Patriots League match. However, the Greyhounds have yet to lose on the road.
During the Patriot League preseason women’s soccer awards Aug. 7, BU was predicted to finish first in the league and took home four individual awards, bringing high expectations for the season.
Sophomore Bridget Carr was awarded Patriot League Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year — now looking for her first clean sheet in the league and her third on the year overall.
Supporting the back-line is senior Helene Tyburczy, who earned Preason Defensive Player of the Year. Offensively, senior Giulianna Gianino was recognized as Preseason Midfielder of the Year, and senior Margy Porta took home Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
Taking place during BU’s Alumni Weekend, the match serves as part of a broader celebration for all former Terriers returning to Commonwealth Avenue.
Additionally, the match is also dedicated to Morgan’s Message, an organization aiming to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community.
The Terriers haven’t dropped back-to-back conference matchups since 2019, and both current players and alumni are looking to keep that streak alive when they travel to West Point, New York on Wednesday to face the Army Black Knights.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 1 p.m. at Nickerson Field in Boston, with streaming available on ESPN+.
