By Riley Lackey
The Boston University women’s lacrosse team (8-8, 3-6 PL) wrapped up its 2025 season with an 18-12 loss to Holy Cross (9-7, 5-4 PL) on Thursday at Nickerson Field. The defeat ended the Terriers’ season.
BU entered the must-win matchup hoping to keep its postseason hopes alive but fell behind early as Holy Cross jumped out to a commanding lead, fueled by a dominant 28-6 advantage on draw controls. The Crusaders’ victory secured them the No. 4 seed in the league tournament.
Holy Cross came out strong, scoring three straight goals and winning the first nine draws. But the game was close at 5-4 after the first quarter, with the Crusaders leading by one. Holy Cross opened the scoring in the second quarter, but soon after, Terrier sophomore midfielder Tessa Geddes responded less than two minutes in, tying the game 6-6.
Holy Cross surged ahead with a run to close the half, taking a 15-7 lead into the break. The Crusaders added another goal early in the quarter to go up by nine, but the Terriers mounted a response.
BU narrowed the gap to six goals in the final quarter. Sophomore attacker Izabella Amonte’s third goal of the game off a pass from senior Hannah Tillier made it 16-12 with just over 10 minutes remaining. But BU couldn’t sustain the rally, as Holy Cross held the Terriers scoreless the rest of the way and tacked on two late goals to secure their win.
Junior midfielder Leah Hodgins led BU with four goals, all in the first half, while Amonte recorded a hat trick, reaching 42 points in her first season. Graduate student Kendall Sims contributed two goals, an assist, and two each of ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers. Goalie Natalie Aiosa recorded 10 saves to close out her season with 152, the most by a BU keeper since 2018.
Senior attackers Sally Zinsner and Riley Peters led Holy Cross with five-goal performances, with draw specialist Racheli Levy-Smith controlling the tempo with 20 draw wins, breaking the school’s previous record.
Despite missing the postseason, BU showed marked improvement from last season, adding three wins, two more conference victories, and boosting its offensive output by 11 goals. Four Terriers ended the year with at least 30 points, doubling their total from 2024.
The Terriers finished seventh in the Patriot League standings, closing out the 2025 season with notable progress and building blocks for an exciting next season.
