Women’s Lacrosse: Terriers Pull Away Late to Secure Road Win over American
By Riley Lackey
The Boston University Women’s Lacrosse team (8-7, 3-5 PL) powered past the American University Eagles (5-10, 1-7 PL) 12-5 on Saturday Afternoon in Washington, D.C.
BU opened the afternoon with strong momentum, scoring three times in the first quarter before American responded. The Terriers continued to push offensively in the second quarter, stretching their lead while holding the Eagles in check.
After halftime, the Eagles found some footing and slowly chipped away at BU’s lead, narrowing the gap to one early in the fourth quarter. But just as momentum seemed to shift, the Terriers flipped the switch.
BU maintained a steady lead throughout the game, but American cut the six-goal deficit to just one early in the final quarter. But with the pressure rising, the Terriers came alive, scoring six unanswered goals in the closing minutes to take control and lock up a key conference win.
Sims broke through with a pair of goals, giving BU some breathing room. Junior defender Siri Hodgins added a highlight moment of her own, sprinting from the defensive end to get her first career goal. Sophomores Izabella Amonte and Tessa Geddes, and senior attacker Hannah Tillier each followed with a goal to seal the win for the Terriers.
Tillier led the rush with three goals and two assists, reaching a career milestone with her 100th point. She was one of many Terriers who found the back of the net, with standout performances from graduate student Kendall Sims, Amonte, and Geddes, each contributing two goals.
BU finished with 37 shots to AU’s 16, and 13 draw controls to American’s six, while also delivering a clean performance in transition. The team successfully cleared on every attempt and won the majority of ground ball battles. Terrier goalie Natalie Aiosa held steady in the net, making several key stops on limited chances and holding a .545 save percentage.
Hodgins was especially active on the defensive end, forcing multiple turnovers in a breakout game. Sims also contributed on the draw, helping BU gain crucial possessions during their fourth quarter surge.
With one regular season game remaining, the Terriers will have a chance to solidify their postseason hopes next Thursday when they host Holy Cross at Nickerson Field. Opening draw is set for 5 p.m., and the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
