Softball: Terriers Head to Lehigh for a Key Patriot League Series Game
By Abigail Stocker
The Boston University Softball Team (30-15, 10-2 PL) hits the road this weekend in a Patriot League showdown against Lehigh University (23-21, 11-4 PL), with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
After a midweek 2-0 win over Harvard University, the Terriers are looking to build momentum as the Patriot League tournament approaches.
BU Head Coach Ashley Waters said she wants the team to stay focused as the regular season winds down and the pressure ramps up.
“[We need to] compete in everything that we do, every single up-at, every single play, every single pitch,” Waters said. “Now, it’s time to slow it down, reel it in. Let’s just play softball.”
This weekend’s series marks the first meeting between the Terriers and Mountain Hawks since BU’s 1-0 extra-innings victory in last season’s Patriot League semifinal.
BU has historically fared well against the Mountain Hawks, winning 26 of their 43 historical matchups.
Offensively, BU continues to be led by junior infielder Brooke Deppiesse, who’s batting .426 with five home runs and 30 RBIs.
Junior infielder Megan Coyle and sophomore outfielder Kylie Doherty also continue to produce at the plate. Coyle leads the team in RBIs with 46, while Doherty hit an out-of-the park homer Tuesday, which brought the Terriers to victory against Havard.
Lehigh’s offense is led by outfielder Kelly Fricker, who is batting a .433 this season, and senior catcher Rory Dudley, who leads with four home runs and 31 RBIs. On the mound, pitcher Chloe Hess leads for Lehigh with 64 strikeouts.
Lehigh enters the series looking to make a comeback after a close loss to Saint Joseph’s Wednesday. These games will also close out the Mountain Hawks’ regular season in the Patriot League.
For the Terriers, the focus remains on consistency. With two Patriot League series remaining, every game counts toward tournament seeding.
First pitch for Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for noon in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with live coverage on ESPN+.
