Boston University Women’s Basketball (4-4, 0-0 PL) will face in-state rival UMass Lowell (2-8, 0-0 AEC) on Thursday, Dec. 12, at Costello Athletic Center. The River Hawks seek revenge after falling 60-58 to the Terriers in a tightly contested game last season.

UMass Lowell enters the game on a two-game winning streak, having defeated the Iona Gaels 49-38 on Tuesday night. Senior guard Sydney Watkins led the River Hawks in that victory with 15 points, while sophomore forward Rayne Durant added 12 points.

Durant will be a player to look out for on Thursday. She scored a career-high 18 points against Le Moyne to help the River Hawks secure their first win of the season. She has been a key contributor for UMass Lowell, not only as a scorer but also as a consistent rebounder, averaging five rebounds per game.

Despite UMass Lowell’s recent improvement, BU holds a strong historical advantage, having won seven out of the last nine matchups between the two teams. However, the Terriers are coming off a disappointing 36-72 loss to the University at Albany, their largest defeat of the season.

BU struggled offensively against UAlbany, shooting just 29% from the field and hitting only three of their 20 three-point attempts. Senior guard Alex Giannaros, BU’s leading scorer, led the team with 14 points in the loss to Albany, but it was not enough to overcome Albany’s Kaci Donovan, who scored 30 points.

To get back on track, BU will need to regain their offensive rhythm to execute more efficiently against UMass Lowell. With a 4-4 record, the Terriers are looking to gain a winning record and build momentum heading into their first Patriot League games.

Thursday’s game presents a critical opportunity for both teams to build momentum as they approach the heart of their seasons. The matchup will take place at Costello Athletic Center and it will be streamed live on ESPN+. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
