Women’s Soccer: Terriers secure win against Navy

By Tyler Davis

Boston University (5-4-3) (2-1-1 PL) came up with a big win against Navy (6-4-3) (1-3-0 PL) with a 3-2 scoreline.

“It was a game team effort and a great team win,” BU Head Coach Casey Brown said.

The Terriers had come into the game against Navy with a comeback tie against Lehigh University.

“We just continued to build from each game,” Brown said. “We wanted to impose our style.”

The first half of the game was evenly split on the chances that both teams had. A highlight from the 23rd minute of the first half was a big chance from the Terriers. The ball was crossed in from the left side and there was an attempt of a shot, but it was blocked. It was followed by a long range shot by midfielder Mackenzie Stickelman that did not go in.

The game went into halftime with a 0-0 score.

Coming back after the half time, the Terriers immediately put pressure on Navy. Guilianna Gianino was able to break the goal-drought at 47:02 with her fourth goal this season.

Keeping with the momentum, the Terriers were able to score once again at 54:38. The goal was scored by Abigail McNulty for her first goal of the season. However, this momentum was interrupted by a penalty granted to Navy after a tripping call within the box. Navy was able to score on the penalty at 55:21 by Katie Herman. It was Herman’s first goal this season.

While the Terriers kept up the fight, Navy were able to capitalize on the Terriers’ mistakes and scored again at 75:34. The goal was scored by Jenna Daunt for her second goal of the season.

After tying the game 2-2, both teams put their best effort to keep on the pressure for a fifth goal in the game.

The Terriers were able to break away from the tie at 84:32 with another goal by Abigail McNulty, which led the Terriers to their 3-2 win.

The Terriers will return to Nickerson Field on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Lafayette.
