The Boston University women’s ice hockey team opens its season with two non-conference matchups at home. The Terriers play Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Friday night at 7 p.m. and face Union College Saturday at 4 p.m. at Walter Brown Arena.

Terriers won 5-1 in an exhibition game against the Université de Moncton September 23 at Walter Brown. All three of BU’s goalies saw the ice, as each played one period.

“I think the effort was good,” head coach Brian Durocher said in the press conference following the Terrier’s exhibition. “I thought there were times in the second period where we got a little disheveled… I think we corrected that, and the start of the third period, we had the puck for pretty much 52 seconds and scored a goal.”

Junior Andi Calderone and senior Julia Nearis each had a powerplay goal, while senior Brooke Ersoy, freshman Brooke Disher, and freshman Sydeny Healey also found the back of the net. Graduate Jesse DeVito, senior Nadia Mattivi, and sophomore Christina Vote are among Terriers who had an assist, while juniors Lacey Martin, Ani Fitzgerald, and Catherine Foulem each had two.

Last year, the Terriers fell to UConn 3-1 in the Hockey East quarterfinals to conclude their 2021-22 season. Nearis put up the most points out of the returning Terriers at 20, with Martin, Foulem, and Mattivi following behind with 12 points.

RPI took two losses against St. Cloud State University last weekend in an away series. Junior Taylor Larsen, senior Maddy Peterson, junior Maddy Papineau, and junior Nyah Philip are each tied with one point to start the season. Senior goaltender Amanda Rampado starts the season with a 3.14 goals-against average and .875 save percentage.

Union, on the other hand, found one success in each of their two-game series playing University of New Hampshire and Holy Cross. Senior Emily King and first-year Riley Walsh lead the team in scoring. Sophomore goaltender Sophie Matsoukas holds a 2.79 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.

The Terriers host RPI first for the regular season opener at Walter Brown Friday, with puck drop set at 7 p.m.
