Field Hockey: Terriers head to Iowa City to face No. 5 Iowa, Saint Louis

By Alexa Podalsky

The Boston University Field Hockey team (1-1) has hit the road going into the second weekend of their season. The Terriers travel to Iowa City to face the No. 5 University of Iowa Hawkeyes today at 4 p.m. EST before taking on the Saint Louis University Billikens tomorrow at 2 p.m. EST.

In their opening weekend, BU earned a 2-1 win against Providence College followed by a 5-2 loss against the University of New Hampshire.

In both games, the Terriers demonstrated the power and determination to right their wrongs from last season. However, they have faced trouble with a shorter roster, which was a contributing factor to their loss last Sunday, due to a number of players out with injuries.

Iowa is ranked number 5 in the nation with a 1-1 record. They are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss against the University of North Carolina. The Hawkeyes started off strong, holding a 2-0 lead at halftime, before ceding three unanswered goals in the second half and overtime.

The Billikens have a 0-2 record so far this season, most recently losing 6-1 to Michigan State. Saint Louis was down the entire game, only hitting the score sheet in the fourth quarter.

In their history, BU trails Iowa in the all-time series, winning just one of their 10 matchups since 1991. The lone win came during the first round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament, a 1-0 upset in double overtime. That year, the Terriers went 18-6 and made it to the second round of the championship before getting knocked out by the University of Connecticut.

The Terriers have only faced Saint Louis University on one other occasion, in 2003 at home, where they won 3-2.

The Terriers will have to focus on maintaining their presence throughout the game if they hope to come out victorious this weekend. While the season is only in its early stages, the team still has the opportunity to show they have corrected the mistakes that held them back last year.
