Despite their best efforts at a fourth-quarter comeback Saturday afternoon, the Boston University women’s lacrosse team fell just short against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 13-12.

The Terriers fall to 1-13 on the year, and are still seeking their first conference win. Lehigh improves to 5-7, and are now 2-3 in Patriot League play.

Several Terriers set career-highs, with junior attack Lauren Kaye notching four goals and eight points to lead all players. Sophomore attack Tobey Tick also scored a career-high four goals.

“Overall, I was happy with the way we battled. We played the full game, we came out incredibly prepared,” BU head coach Lauren Morton said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t capitalize in certain areas we could’ve stepped up. We just didn’t do enough to put us in a position to win.”

The first half was very back-and-forth on the scoreboard, with the two squads trading goals and two-goal runs.

BU did not have a lead until late into the second quarter, as two quick goals by Tick followed by a goal from Kaye put the Terriers up, 9-8.

“Lauren stepped into a new role, and she did a great job with that,” Morton said of her attacker duo. “This is what we’ve known Tobey to be capable of. She has the ability to really dominate a game. We put her in some different positions, which she did a really good job with.”

Though poised to head into halftime with a lead, BU faltered and Lehigh scored with six seconds left in the second quarter to even things up.

Both offenses slowed down in the second half, with only half the goal-scoring in the final two frames.

“We both figured each other out a little bit. We didn’t get into as much of a flow in the second half, and similarly we locked down on some of their off-ball cutters. We got ourselves jammed a little too much,” Morton noted of the half-to-half difference.

BU was able to hold Lehigh scoreless in the fourth, and began to mount a comeback effort early. However, Lehigh held strong and was able to sneak away with the win.

BU will seek their second win of the season against Bucknell in Bethlehem next weekend, with opening draw set for 2 p.m.
