Men’s Hockey: Ty Amonte enters transfer portal

By Patrick Donnelly

Boston University fifth-year senior Ty Amonte has entered the transfer portal, as reported by Mike McMahon of College Hockey News.

The assistant captain had one goal and four assists for five points in 17 games this season. He missed the first six games of 2021-22 due to a sports hernia. On his career as a Terrier, the Norwell, Mass., native had 16 goals, 16 assists and 32 points in 97 games over five years.

Amonte redshirted in 2019-20 due to a shoulder injury that kept him out for the entire season. He returned for two games in the shortened 2020-21 season, notching a goal and an assist, before missing the remainder of the year with a different shoulder injury. The right-shot center had a career season as a sophomore in 2018-19, putting up 8-8–16 in 37 games.

It is believed Amonte has one year of eligibility remaining because of his redshirt year and the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to COVID-19. So, the 24-year-old will look to play his sixth year elsewhere to conclude his collegiate career.

During his time on Comm. Ave, Amonte was a part of a Hockey East Championship in 2018 and the program’s 31s Beanpot title in 2022, although he missed the championship game against Northeastern with an injury that kept him out for the remainder of the season sustained in the semifinal against Harvard. The 5-foot-11, 174 pound forward scored the game-winning goal in double overtime of the Beanpot semifinal against Harvard as a freshman in 2018.

The undrafted free agent was an invite to the New York Rangers’ development camp during the 2019 offseason, and the St. Louis Blues’ camp in 2018.

He is part of a graduating BU class that includes fifth-year senior captain Logan Cockerill, graduate assistant captain Max Kaufman and fifth-year senior defenseman Joseph Campolieto. Junior assistant captain Alex Vlasic also departed the program at the conclusion of the season when the defenseman signed an entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Also in the transfer portal is junior forward Markus Boguslavsky. At the winter break this season, freshman defenseman Braden Doyle transferred from BU as well, leaving for the BCHL before committing to Northeastern for next season, while freshman forward Tyler Boucher opted to sign with the Ottawa Senators, the team that selected him 10th overall in last year’s draft.

WTBU previously reported that Vlasic is expected the only early departure to the pros, aside from Boucher’s exit at the break.

Amonte’s brother, Tristan, had a goal and an assist in 17 games as a freshman with the Terriers this season.
