Boston University softball swept its opponent in a doubleheader for the second day in a row on Wednesday, defeating UMass Lowell in two back-to-back home games.

The win gives the Terriers a 17-2 all-time record against the River Hawks.

Junior pitcher Lizzy Avery, coming off throwing a no-hitter on Tuesday, threw another complete game and posted six strikeouts. Junior pitcher Allison Boaz held UML to four hits and one run in seven innings in the second game.

Game 1: BU defeats UML 3-2

The River Hawks got BU’s first two batters to pop up before sophomore shortstop Kayla Roncin walked to put a runner on. Senior designated player Emily Gant rocked a triple to left center in the next at-bat to score Roncin, giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead.

UML fired back in the second when designated player Morgan Fisher walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, later coming in to score when an error by BU allowed first baseman Maria Moccio to reach.

The Terriers came up with more clutch hitting in the third when senior first baseman Nicole Amodio’s two-out single scored graduate left fielder Jen Horita and sophomore right fielder Lauren Keleher.

The River Hawks cut the deficit to one run when a triple by center fielder Olivia Labbe brought home pinch runner Brooke Ashenfelter, but failed to record another hit in the final two innings.

Game 2: BU defeats UML 7-1

The Terriers provided all of the offense to start the game, scoring four runs before UML could record its second hit.

To open the first, junior third baseman Caitlin Coker hammered the third pitch she saw past the right field fence, giving BU an early 1-0 advantage. Later in the inning, Amodio knocked a two-out double to right to score Keleher and Gant.

Amodio’s sac fly in the third scored Roncin, and an RBI groundout by Coker in the fourth allowed freshman designated player Tyesha Williams to reach home.

Keleher put the Terriers one run shy of a mercy-rule victory in the fifth with a two-run double that brought home Gant and Roncin.

The River Hawks recorded their only run of the contest in the sixth when an error by Amodio gave third baseman Tori Mueller the opportunity to score.

The Terriers travel to Easton, Pa. for three games against Lafayette College on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday.
