The Boston University Women’s ice hockey team (10-12-5, 9-7-4 HE) have a tough weekend ahead with the Vermont Catamounts (19-9-2, 16-6-1 HE), who are looking to extend their nine-game win streak.

The Terriers are recovering from a 3-0 loss against the Northeastern University Huskies on Tuesday in the consolation game of the Beanpot. Vermont saw the Huskies just 12 days ago, where they ended NU’s 13-game win streak with a third period takeover to result in a 2-1 win for the Catamounts.

UVM matched with the Maine Black Bears last week and took home both wins in the weekend series. Vermont’s Saturday victory marked their 19th win for the season, which is a program high for the Catamounts.

Vermont holds a .198 power play percentage, ranked ninth in the NCAA. The Catamounts penalty killing stands out at No. 3 in the nation, at 93.3 percent. On the other side, BU pulls a .104 power play percentage and a .830 penalty kill percentage.

Senior forward Theresa Schafzahl leads Vermont and Hockey East in goal scoring with 17 goals (15 assists, 32 points). Senior defender Maude Poulin-Labelle also claims 32 points, with 12 goals and 20 assists.

Sophomore goaltender Jessie McPherson has played every game in 2022 and holds a 12-3-0 record this season, expecting to make the start for the Catamounts on Friday. McPherson has one shutout, a .922 save percentage, and a 1.78 goals-against average in 16 games.

For the Terriers, senior forward Courtney Correia leads with 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists). Behind Correia, with 16 points, is junior forward Julia Nearis (4 goals, 12 assists) and senior forward Mackenna Parker (9 goals, 7 assists).

In the net for BU is both senior Kate Stuart (5-7-4) and freshman Callie Shanahan (5-4-1). Stuart has played in 16 games this season with a .921 save percentage and a 2.34 GAA. Shanahan, playing in 10 games, totals a .929 save percentage and a 2.19 GAA.

The Terriers last met the Catamounts in Walter Brown Arena on Oct. 29, 2021, ending in a 1-1 draw between the teams with BU taking the extra shootout point. BU senior Emma Wuthrich (6g, 4a) scored the Terrier’s goal, and it was Maude Poulin- Labelle who scored for the Catamounts.

Friday’s puck drop is set for 2 p.m. and after UVM’s senior day ceremony on Saturday, the puck will drop in Gutterson Fieldhouse at 3 p.m. for the second to last weekend of Hockey East regular season games.
