The Boston University women’s basketball team’s Patriot League opener against Bucknell was postponed Tuesday due to COVID-19 protocols within the Terriers’ program, according to Boston University Athletics. The matchup was originally scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bucknell’s Sojka Pavilion.

BU and Bucknell will work together with Patriot League officials to reschedule the game for later in the season. Their next scheduled contest is on February 26 in Boston.

The match is the second conference opener to be postponed due to COVID-19 concerns, as Army’s meeting with Loyola Maryland was pushed back due to health and safety protocols two days ago. While men’s basketball is not scheduled to begin Patriot League play until Saturday, four regular season games have been canceled or postponed in the past week and a half.

It remains to be seen whether any scheduling adjustments will be made to men’s games as January 1 — the scheduled date for all 10 men’s teams to face off — approaches.

One million coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Massachusetts since the start of the pandemic as of Tuesday, per data released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The agency also announced 9,228 new cases Tuesday.
