Women’s Hockey: Terriers fall short to Huskies

By Stevie Potter

The Boston University Terriers (5-1-3, 4-0-3 HEA) lost 2-1 to the University of Connecticut Huskies (8-1-0, 4-1-0 HEA) in their first of two games this weekend.

UConn’s sophomore forward Jada Habisch potted the first goal of the game with 11:09 remaining in the first period to put the Huskies up 1-0.

Both teams had power play opportunities. Terriers’ Alex Allen was called for cross checking and Huskies’ Danielle Fox two minutes for indirect contact to the head, but neither team was able to produce a goal on the man advantage.

BU’s Julia Shaunessy was called for a tripping penalty 18 minutes and 22 seconds into the period, but no goals were scored in the second period of tonight’s game.

Julia Shaunessy took another tripping penalty in the third period and the Huskies were able to capitalize, ending the Terriers’ penalty kill streak.

UConn’s Morgan Wabick scored the second goal of the game after being assisted by her sister Taylor Wabick.

BU’s Nadia Mattivi also spent two minutes in the sin bin after an interference call, but no goal was scored by the Huskies on this opportunity. Courtney Correia went on to score the lone goal for the Terriers tonight and was assisted by Emma Wuthrich.

With the score at 2-1, BU opted to pull their goalie for an extra attacker in the final minutes of the game but was unable to push the game into overtime.

The Terriers will once again take on UConn, this time on home ice at Walter Brown Arena. The puck drop will be at 3 p.m.
