PREVIEW: Best Coast @ Royale 3/16

By Angel Kim

The undeniably Californian band Best Coast will be headlining at Royale next Monday, 3/16, with support from Mannequin Pussy. They are currently touring their fifth album Always Tomorrow, which was released on Feb. 21 via Concord Records. The record was a long time coming, as before releasing lead single “For The First Time” to anticipating fans last fall, the band had not released new music since 2015’s California Nights. The duo, consisting of Bethany Cosentino on guitar and vocals and Bobb Bruno on guitar, has been playing together for over a decade, sonically blending surf rock reminiscent of the Beach Boys with 80s and 90s pop punk. In Always Tomorrow, notably on the track “Everything Has Changed”, Cosentino reflects on her life over the years and in the current. In a press release she says “Always Tomorrow is the story of where I was and where I am now, as well as the struggles I am still learning to identify and figure out… This album is about leaving the darkness for the light, but still understanding that nothing is ever going to be perfect.”

Tickets are available here for $25 in advance and $28 on the show date. Doors are at 7 pm. The show is 18+ with a valid ID or with a parent.
