Softball: Morrow nabs second straight walk-off

The 2019 installment of softball’s battle for Commonwealth Avenue did not disappoint. In a game mostly dominated by pitching, it was the late game heroics of senior Emily Morrow that sealed the deal for BU’s 3-2 win.
“We haven’t beat them in the spring in my four years, so this was a great win over a tough ACC team,” Morrow said.
The game was shaping up to have a similar scoreline of last years affair where BC stole a 1-0 victory. Ali DuBois got the start again for the Terriers (18-15, 3-0 Patriot League) and went to work right away. The sophomore pitcher dialed in early, allowing no hits through the first 4 innings and was in complete control of her pitching arsenal, fooling the Eagles with her off-speed pitches.
DuBois got a little help from some stellar defensive plays at third base by senior Alexa Ponce, who made a diving catch and crucial double play in the top of the fifth to keep the game locked. The stat sheet was empty for Boston College entering the 6th inning where things started to get dicey.
BC’s Ellie Mataya set things up for the Eagles with a two out double. DuBois appeared to be handling the situation, but a fielding error where left fielder Jen Horita and centerfielder Emily Gant collided allowed BC to get the first run of the game and get another player in scoring position. Dubois gave up a two-out RBI single to Allyson More before closing out the sixth.
Up until this point it was all business for Susannah Anderson who got the start for Boston College. She kept the Terriers to just one hit going into the sixth inning, where BU finally showed some life. Alexa Ponce put the Terriers on the board with an RBI single to shrink the lead to one, but BU was going to need more to come away with a win.
In the top of the seventh, DuBois easily took care of BC with a 1-2-3 inning, giving her offense one last chance to keep the game alive. A walk and a hit-by-pitch put BU with runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, when Morrow came up to bat. With a 1-2 count, Morrow drove the ball clean over the center fielder’s head and scored both runners to give the Terriers a 3-2 walk-off victory over rival Boston College.
Morrow is fresh off a two run walk off home run against Holy Cross.
“I was making adjustments throughout the whole game and I knew all it took was one pitch.” Morrow said. “We were doing a really good job of passing the bat and I was just trying to keep the game going.”
The Terriers will look to carry this momentum into this weekend’s Patriot League series against Lehigh.
