Men’s Hockey: Terriers will be short handed against Dartmouth

BOSTON- Before the puck is even dropped Friday night at Agganis Arena the Terriers will find themselves down a couple of important pieces. Sophomore forward Shane Bowers and sophomore defenseman Cam Crotty will be away from the team, and junior defenseman Chad Krys will miss the contest due to injury.
On December 3rd, Hockey Canada announced their roster for camp ahead of the World Junior Classic tournament in Vancouver, British Columbia. Both Bowers (a Halifax, Nova Scotia native) and Crotty (a Greely, Ontario native) were selected to the preliminary roster that will go compete in selection camp for the chance to be on the final roster. The camp will consist of three exhibition games on consecutive days (Dec. 12-14) against U-Sports Canada. The complete roster was announced on the team’s Twitter account:
What’s Missing?
In Bowers the team will be without a top centerman. He has five goal and three assists including three points (two goals, one assist) in last weekend’s series against UMass Lowell. Crotty is another player who has come into his own as of late for the Terriers. He nabbed his first goal of the season last Friday in the loss to UML.
“Cam’s been rock solid all year. He’s been one of our best two-way players.” said O’Connell continuing with, “Cam’s a terrific player, terrific kid. Great student, great role model so we’re lucky to have him.”
In addition to Friday’s 5-3 loss to the River Hawks, in his postgame press conference coach O’Connell announced another loss the team suffered. He said that the team will be without the assistant captain Krys for the near future.
“[Krys] will be out the rest of the semester.” O’Connell said as he specified that it wasn’t a recurrence of the lower body injury that caused him to miss the opening series of the season at Minnesota State.
With eight points on the season (three goals, five assists), Krys has been one of the more productive defensmen the Terriers have had in their lineup.
Luckily for the team, they will only be down these three key components for a game. As the Terriers take to the ice for their final game of December on the 14th against Dartmouth. After that the team will enjoy a break for the holiday and remain off through the new year, returning to action on January 8th when the team goes on the road to play Harvard.
