BOSTON  –  It’s hard to believe, but the soccer season is nearing a close.

Saturday marks the final regular season game at Nickerson Field for the Boston University women’s soccer team, which has fared 4-2-1 at home this year.

The Terriers (7-7-3, 5-0-2) have been stifling in conference play, and have also endured a tough nonconference slate which prepared them well for league competition.

BU is currently third in the league behind first-place Colgate — who they will finish the regular season against in Hamilton, N.Y. next Saturday — and Navy, who the Terriers beat, 1-0, at home three weeks ago.

Bucknell sits right behind them, at 5-2 in the Patriot League. The Bison (7-8-1 overall) have experienced similar success in league play. They have won two of their last three matches and five of their last six in the Patriot League. Last time out, they handled in-state rival Lehigh, 1-0. Sophomore Jenna Marek scored the lone goal while the defense clamped down, allowing just three Mountain Hawks shots.

Marek will be the biggest test for the Terriers defense. Her four goals make her the only member of the Bison with more than two goals; she also leads the team with eight points. Right behind her on the score sheet are freshmen Kate Henesey and Holly Burns.

Local products from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, respectively, each of these performers have two goals and four assists. BU will need to keep them in check if they want to suppress the Bison in the conference standings.

Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
