Women’s Soccer: Terriers tie Dartmouth, 0-0

The Boston University women’s soccer team peppered Dartmouth with a bevy of shots throughout Sunday’s matinee affair in New Hampshire, but was unable to find the back of the net in a 0-0 tie.

The Terriers (1-6-1) held the advantage in both shots, 16-10, and shots on goal, 6-3, making life difficult for Big Green goalkeeper Mariel Gordon (six saves). BU could not break through, however, and extended their winless streak to two games.

“We had better chances,” BU head coach Nancy Feldman said. “The second half in particular we dominated the possession and the chances. [But] we got to knock it in. We need to impose our will a little bit more in the first half and try to wear them down.”

Sophomore keeper Amanda Fay was stellar in goal. She preserved her third career non-conference shutout and her first of 2018, making three saves in a full 110 minutes of action. Fay’s highlight of the afternoon came in the 12th minute, when Dartmouth flicked a header on net; she was up to the challenge, however, and stopped the ball in its tracks.

Chelsea Churchill led the BU offense with four shots—a career high.

“She competes like a champ,” Feldman said of the senior. “She is quick, and has the ability to create her own shot. She has been playing great and is having a great senior season.”

Churchill’s day included a vicious one-timer that was deflected by the Dartmouth defense in the first half—a theme for the afternoon, as the Terriers were consistently limited by the Big Green front.

“I don’t think we played poorly,” Feldman said. “But I don’t think we took it to them enough in the first half. We had a lot of good play. It’s about consistently owning the game and the tempo.”

BU will hit the road again later in the week to continue a three-game trip. They head to Morgantown, West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers of the Big 12 on Thursday night, before beginning Patriot League play in a matchup with American on Saturday.
