Marisa Moseley Introduced as New Women’s Basketball Head Coach

Marisa Moseley knows what student life is like at Boston University. The 2004 graduate made her opening remarks at a press conference held on Wednesday morning in the Burke Club Room at Agganis Arena.
A member of the only Terrier women’s basketball team to the reach the NCAA Tournament in 2003, Moseley was a two-time Terrier captain and an America East Third Team member her senior campaign. She graduated with a degree in sociology, walking the same Commonwealth Avenue her players do daily.
“I have walked these streets, I have ridden the T, I have studied on BU beach and I’ve eaten at T. Anthony’s,” Moseley said to her players. “I’m a Terrier just like you.”
A nine-year member of Geno Auriemma’s staff at the University of Connecticut, Moseley also coached at the University of Denver and the University of Minnesota. Auriemma and his staff were in attendance at the press conference.
“For the last nine years, I had a front row seat in one of the best classes a coach could ever dream of,” Moseley said.
Boston University Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello said Moseley was the top choice from a bevy of strong candidates.
“We had formative and serious conversations with a number of qualified individuals, but one quickly rose to the top,” Marrochello said.
He described Moseley as, “genuine, caring, magnetic and someone that you’d clearly want to play for.”
Eight players will return this fall, highlighted by 2017-18 All-Patriot League Third Team honoree, rising junior Nia Irving, and rising sophomore Katie Nelson, who was named to this year’s All-Patriot League Rookie Team. Rising seniors Payton Hauck and Naiyah Thompson are also returning starters. Moseley said she wants to help grow an already established environment.
“The culture is the biggest piece to this whole process,” Moseley said. “They already have a great culture here, they are a tight knit group. I think it’s just going to be unselfish players who are committed to one goal. We’re all going to work hard, we’re going to compete at a very high level on and off the court, and we’re going to have a lot of fun doing it.”
