Terriers go 3-2 at San Diego Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Terriers will be spending their Spring Break in California playing in a series of tournaments to kick off their season. Just a week after knocking off the No. 1 ranked team in the country, you would have to imagine that coach Ashley Waters’ team will have some confidence on their West Coast trip.
In the first game, the team took on California State University – Northridge; pitcher Cali Dolfi received some early run support. The Terriers began the game by scoring three runs in the first and adding another run in the second. Although the effort in the first inning was enough for them win the game, the Terriers finished the game off by putting up four in the fourth. The team put up a season-high 13 hits against CSUN. Alex Heinen lead the way with four hits. The final score saw the Terriers win 9-2.
During the second game of Friday’s slate the Terriers took on Santa Clara. The offense fell silent in the second game of the days doubleheader, dropping the contest by a score of 3-0. The Terriers put the ball in play, but could never find a rhythm as the team managed only three hits – though they did get through the contest without a single strike out.
Heading into Saturday, the Terriers were set to play two games. First against Colorado State and later against San Diego State. Unfortunately the second game of Saturday was postponed. Against Colorado State, BU let up two early runs, but took control from there on out, holding Colorado State scoreless after the first.
In the opening inning, however, Pitcher Ali Dubois was chased from the game after letting up two runs in the first on four hits and a hit-batsman. Once again Dolfi came in and held the opposition scoreless. The Terriers found their answer in the third when a Madi Killebrew double brought home two runs, which was followed by a Jilee Schanda RBI single.
On the final day of the San Diego Classic, the Terriers played to a 1-1 record on the day, even though the team only managed two runs on Sunday. The first game was against Oregon State, losing by a score of 4-1. The Beavers possess an impressive 12-8 record on the year. While the Terriers were able to get seven hits, which matched Oregon State, a three-run third inning proved to be the difference for the Beavers.
To wrap up the weekend the Terriers got their chance to take on San Diego State. The team muscled their way to a 1-0 shutout victory. In the shutout, Dolfi picked up her third win of the weekend. Killebrew contributed two hits in the game, and Emma Wong’s two-out RBI triple in the fourth inning provided the only run in the contest.
The Terriers will have Monday off as the travel to Los Angeles to take on Loyola Marymount in a March 6 doubleheader. Later in the week the team will be playing in the Louisville Slugger Tournament hosted in Long Beach.
The Terriers now hold a 7-6 record on the season.
