Men’s Lacrosse Looks to Continue Home Success Against Dartmouth

Less than two minutes into the second quarter of their contest against fifth-ranked Ohio State on February 10, the Boston University men’s lacrosse team seemed destined to endure their most humbling loss in program history.

Trailing 8-0 following a seven-goal outburst by the formidable Buckeyes in the first quarter, BU could have easily retreated to the showers accepting the notion that they were not ready to compete with the big wigs of Division 1 lacrosse.

However, that was not the mindset the team adopted. Fueled by two consecutive scores from junior attack James Burr, the Terriers netted four unanswered goals to begin the third quarter – slicing the deficit to 10-5. BU kept pace with Ohio State for the remainder of the action, falling by a narrow 15-9 margin considering the manner in which the game took shape in the first quarter.

After 10 days to watch film on the loss to the Buckeyes and work on correcting their mistakes, the Terriers return to action Tuesday night as they face Dartmouth at Nickerson Field. This game will serve as the final tuneup for the team before Patriot League action begins with against Navy on Saturday.

The Big Green, who play a loaded schedule with contests against ranked Virginia, Yale and Princeton on the horizon, stand 1-0 after squeezing out a 13-12 win over Canisius this past Saturday.

Dartmouth received a varied offensive output with nine different players recording a goal. However, the offense was mainly spurred by midfielder Jack Korzelius and attack George Prince, who will be the two focal points for the Terriers’ defense on Tuesday night.

Korzelius, who scored three goals against Canisius, finished third on the team in goals last season, with 17, while earning All-Ivy Second Team honors. The Purchase, N.Y. native enters his senior season primed for a run at the All-Ivy First Team, and will have the ball in his stick enough to rack up the points necessary.

Prince, who notched a goal and three assists in his first collegiate game, racked up plenty of accolades while playing high school lacrosse for IMG Academy in Florida. The freshman starred on a team that rose as high as No. 2 in the USA Today nationwide rankings, leading IMG Academy with 25 assists a season ago.

The game is set to get underway at 7 p.m. at Boston University’s Nickerson Field.
