BOSTON, MA  — The Boston University men’s soccer team will have the opportunity to get back to its winning ways in the Patriot League on Saturday when they take on Navy at Nickerson Field.

The Terriers recently lost their perfect record in Patriot League play with a 2-1 loss to Loyola Maryland at Nickerson Field. The defeat, followed by a 1-1 draw with Northeastern on Tuesday, places BU at 5-7-2 and 4-1 in the Patriot League. They remain at the top of the league standings, sharing the first-place spot with Loyola.

The Terriers are edging out opponents in shots, 143-141.  Their SOG percentage could use improvement though as it sits at a relatively low 0.385. Their highly effective defense, with an emphasis on physicality, has resulted in two goals allowed for BU in Patriot League fixtures, but at the cost of an average of 14 fouls per game.

Offensively, the Terriers have seen production from a pair of young forwards. Sophomore Matt McDonnell has provided a consistent offensive outlet, scoring in three of the Terriers’ last four matches and bagging an assist as well.
Freshman winger Toti Knutsson is having a prolific first season at BU, with two goals and three assists under his belt. Meanwhile, captain and center back Adam Sheikali, who has been a leader at the back, also has a goal and an assist to his name.

Navy is bottom of the Patriot League, at 0-3-2 in conference and 2-9-2 overall. Further, they have lost all five of their away matches this season, and are being outscored 10-3. Their opponents are outshooting them by a wide margin of 206-129.

Senior forward Daniel Zaremba is the Mids’ points leader with three goals and an assist; he’s also pacing the Midshipmen with 31 shots. Aubrey Jones quickly follows Zaremba at three goals and 18 shots.

Saturday evening’s match also marks the Terriers’ Senior Night. The BU Class of 2018 includes a slew of players as Sheikali, Esen Harris, David Amirani, Anthony Viteri, Eric Mubang, Eric Udelson, Bjorn Kammholz, Andrew Hoang, Jackson Weiss, and Danny Foen will all be honored before kickoff.
