Soccer: Both Terrier teams earn points in Tuesday’s doubleheader

BOSTON- Both Boston University soccer teams earned points in Tuesday’s doubleheader action at Nickerson Field.
In the first match of the afternoon, the men’s team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to tie Princeton, 1-1.
In the nightcap, the women’s team won their second consecutive match with a 1-0 victory over Dartmouth.
Men’s Soccer: Boston University 1, Princeton 1
Following their first win of the season Saturday night vs. Harvard, the Terriers tried to continue their upswing against another Ivy League opponent, Princeton.
However, coach Neil Roberts and his team didn’t expect the start they endured.
The Tigers found the back of the net just minutes into the game when Jeremy Colvin slid a shot past BU goalkeeper William Bonnelyche.
“The start was embarrassing,” Roberts said. “We weren’t ready to play. They came out more determined.”
BU was dealt another jolt of adversity in the first half when senior David Amirani left the game with an injury.
The former All-Patriot League member was injured on a hard tackle. The Princeton player received a yellow card and Amirani left the field on a stretcher.
The Terriers fought back in the second half creating multiple chances to the tie game.
The equalizer came in the 71st minute when Nicki Wieners headed a shot into the goal off a feed from Adam Sheikali.
“I liked the fight that we had,” Roberts said. “I was happy with our fight. I don’t know if it was when David got hurt, but our guys finally decided to have a backbone themselves.”
Along with Amirani, BU also lost junior Ben Valek, who picked up his second yellow card moments before overtime.
The Terriers played the overtime period a man-down but were still able to earn a point in the tie.
BU will begin Patriot League play Saturday at American. They are currently 1-5-1 on the season.
Women’s Soccer: Boston University 1, Dartmouth 0
Julianna Chen’s goal in the 18th minute was all the offense the Terriers needed, as they knocked off Dartmouth 1-0 in the nightcap at Nickerson Field.
Chen split two defenders, and then slipped the ball past the Dartmouth keeper off a beautiful feed from senior Jesse Shreck. The goal was Chen’s second the season.
The BU defense continued their recent run of dominance with another shut out performance. Dartmouth registered just three shots on goal throughout the contest.
The Big Green did have a golden opportunity to tie the game in the 53rd minute, but Terrier net minder Amanda Fay dove and saved a point-blank shot from inside the box to maintain the one-goal advantage. Fay, a freshman, recorded her second-straight shutout.
The victory was the Terriers’ second in as many games, with as they improve their overall record to 3-5-2 (1-0-0 PL).
BU will delve back into their Patriot League schedule Saturday when they travel to Lehigh.
