Women’s Lacrosse: BC Doubles Up BU 18-9

By: Marisa Ingemi

It was nearly identical to the last time these two teams squared off. The Boston College Eagles defeated the Boston University Terriers 18-9 on Friday afternoon from a chilly Nickerson Field. The contest was almost the same as the 17-9 result in favor of the Eagles last season, the last time BU had taken the field.

After falling 8-0 early in the first half, the Terriers struggled to get on the scoreboard but more than anything, to stop the Eagles. Sam Appuzo, a freshman for Boston College, led the way with her first four collegiate goals. Caroline Margolis, who dominated from the midfield all day, also added four tallies and an assist.

BU goalie Caroline Meegan faced an onslaught from the Eagles’ offense that included 36 shots in all. Meegan left the game late in the second half with an apparent injury and was replaced by Christine Laible, who allowed all three shots that she faced to go in the net.

The Terriers did take some positives from the game, with hat tricks for Mallory Collins and Mickenzie Laviree. Laviree scored five times against Boston College the last time she took the field, so she continued that pace, while Collins was the leading scorer for the Terriers last season.

Jenny Thompson scored two goals and Avery Donahue contributed the other for BU. Zoe Ochoa was between the pipes for the Eagles, and she made eight saves allowing eight goals. Lauren Day took over late and she allowed the final Terrier tally.

BC won in the draws controlled department, Apuzzo taking the majority of them against Collins or Jill Horka from BU. The Eagles led in nearly every statistical category, and the #9/11 team in the nation showed why they are ranked where they are.

The Terriers will be away from Nickerson Field for the next several weeks and will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Connecticut to take on the Fairfield Stags.
