Adolescent Girls’ Secondary Education Transition in Lebanon Client: UNICEF Lebanon

This chapter examines the challenges faced by adolescent girls in Lebanon in transitioning to grades 9-12. While working with UNICEF Lebanon, we conducted a literature review and developed a mapping of barriers facing girls through post-elementary education. The chapter recommends that UNICEF Lebanon focus on providing merit-based scholarships for girls to enroll in technical and vocational education (TVET), making schools safer for girls, while using gender-responsive budgeting as a guiding framework to ensure that educational programs in Lebanon do not leave adolescent girls behind. These recommendations should be taken into consideration based on the uncertainty of the Lebanese context.
