Gallery: Women’s ice hockey lose final game of regular season to UConn
The Boston University women’s hockey team fought hard but fell short in their regular season finale, dropping a 3-1 decision to UConn. The Huskies struck first in the opening period, but BU responded late in the second as Luisa Welcke capitalized on a Riley Walsh rebound. The deadlock held until midway through the third when UConn reclaimed the lead. With Callie Shanahan pulled in the final minutes, the Huskies sealed the win with an empty-netter. Despite outshooting UConn 34-21, BU went 0-for-6 on the power play, unable to break through. Shanahan stopped 18 shots, while UConn’s Tia Chan made 33 saves. BU enters the Hockey East Tournament as the No. 2 seed, set to host a quarterfinal on March 1 at 4 p.m.
