Boston University Women’s Basketball (6-12, 2-5 PL) came away with a road win against Lafayette Leopards Women’s Basketball (7-11, 3-4 PL) in a 66-55 contest in Easton.

The Terriers were looking to bounce back after a heartbreaking one point loss against Loyola Maryland at home. This matchup was the second and final regular season game between BU and Lafayette, with the Leopards winning the first matchup by one point.

“I am happiest with the defensive side,” said BU Head Coach Melissa Graves. “We fixed a lot of things from the first time we played them.”

The Terriers opened the game with a 9-0 run. Senior forward Anete Adler led the way early with a couple baskets, while junior guard Audrey Ericksen contributed with a three-point shot and two assists.

The Leopards clawed back into the contest, closing the deficit to three points by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter started similarly to the first quarter, with BU going on an 8-0 run to open the quarter.

Adler, along with senior forward Anastasiia Semenova, led the way for the Terriers in the first half, each scoring 12 points. BU closed the half on a 10-3 run, taking a 12-point lead to halftime.

“Anete was unstoppable today, and she did such a great job inside,” said Graves. “Ana did the same, and she hit a big three for us in the fourth quarter. Those two are playing really well together.”

Adler dominated early in the second half, scoring six of the Terriers’ first nine points. The two teams traded baskets in the early portion of the third quarter, but BU would close the quarter on an 8-0 run.

Lafayette fought back to start the fourth quarter, opening the final period on a 7-0 run. The Terriers struggled to take care of the ball, committing three turnovers in the first two and a half minutes of the quarter.

Adler and Semenova helped close out the game for the Terriers, scoring 10 of the last 13 points of the game for BU. Adler had a career game, scoring 27 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, with Semenova contributing 15 points and 7 rebounds.

The two seniors led the way offensively, while the Terriers shut down junior guard Teresa Kiewiet. Kiewiet, who came into the matchup second in the Patriot League in points per game, scored 12 points on 3 for 16 shooting.

“Overall, I thought we locked into the things we needed to do and fixed the things that we did not execute well in the last game we played them,” said Graves.

The Terriers return home this weekend to play against Colgate on Jan. 24th in a Saturday afternoon matchup, with the game starting at 2 p.m. and available to stream on ESPN+.
