Boston University Men’s Basketball (4-5, 0-0 PL) handled VTSU-Johnson (0-7, 0-2 ATL) in a 47-point blowout win, winning 104-57.
After back-to-back losses, BU got back on track and grabbed a much-needed win against VTSU-Johnson. This is the second time the schools have faced off, with BU stomping the Badgers by 40+ each time.
The Terriers were led by freshman forward Andrew Bhesania, who made his first start in the scarlet and white in this game. Bhesania notched 23 points and 6 rebounds on 61% shooting from the field. Junior guard Michael McNair and freshman guard Donte Tisinger also had big roles in the game, with McNair dropping 18 points and 6 rebounds and Tisinger dropping 14 points, respectively.
Boston University Head Coach Joe Jones commented on Bhesania’s play to reporters after the game, saying, “He’s gotten stronger, he’s a really good shooter, and he’s a long kid. You know, rebounding is something that we need. He got six rebounds tonight, and that’s what we need. It helps that he can shoot, but we need defending and rebounding in that position.”
“It’s important to have games like this where you can play your whole team; you know, it builds camaraderie. You saw the way they celebrated Quinn, A.B. [Andrew Bhesania], and Tae [Donte Tisinger], those are guys that haven’t had an opportunity, and it’s great to play games. It’s great to get to play games where everybody who played scored a basket, and it’s really cool to have a game where you win and everybody is able to contribute,” said Coach Joe Jones.
The Terriers outclassed VTSU on many fronts, specifically with shooting from deep and the battles in the paint. BU shot 63% overall and 51% from deep, while VTSU shot 35% overall and 33% from deep. BU also had a strong advantage in the paint, scoring 42 points in the paint in comparison to VTSU’s measly 18 points.
The Badgers were led by freshman guard Jaylen Brown, who notched 14 points and 3 rebounds, along with junior guard Marty Askenazi, who notched 11 points and 3 rebounds. VTSU has now lost eight straight games to start the season.
BU is now gearing up to head on a road trip to Durham, New Hampshire, where they look to face off against the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, December 6th. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
