Women’s Basketball: BU Back Home Against UMass Lowell

By Austin Rayamajhi

The Boston University Terriers Women’s Basketball team (2-3, 0-0 PL) is set to host the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks Women’s Basketball team (2-2, 0-0 AE) in a matchup between Massachusetts rivals.

BU has dropped the first two games of the season at home and is coming off a loss on the road in their last matchup against Brown. Lowell is wrapping up a four-game road trip with their trip to Case Gym, having gone 1-2 so far.

Each of the Terriers’ opening five contests has been close, with the margin of victory all being within 10 points. This includes two one-possession losses to Ivy League teams in Brown and Dartmouth.

The River Hawks were blown out by fellow Massachusetts rivals in Boston College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, although they did sandwich these games with a win on the road against Central Connecticut.

BU has dominated this matchup historically, winning eight games compared to two wins by Lowell. The Terriers are currently on a five-game win streak against the Riverhawks. The two teams have played four years in a row, with the Terriers winning each by an average margin of 14.5 points.

Early on, the Terriers have been led by fourth-year forward Anete Adler, who is the only Terrier averaging double figures at 13.3 points per game. Adler shines for the team with a dominant interior game, leading in field goal percentage, rebounds, and blocks, and is also second on the team in assists.

Fourth-year guard Jaini Edmonds leads the way as the only River Hawk averaging double-digit points per game at 10.5, although she has struggled shooting from the field. Third-year guard Maddie Rice has been Lowell’s most reliable shooter, putting up a blistering 58.3% from 3-point range to go along with a team-leading 5.8 rebounds per game.

BU is hopeful they can end their home woes this weekend in the matchup against Lowell. The game is Saturday, November 22nd, at 2 p.m. and is available to stream on ESPN+.
