Men’s Basketball: Terriers Take on Harvard in a Weekend Clash

By Matthew Wuschke
Boston University Men’s Basketball (3-2, 0-0 PL) heads on a road trip to Connecticut to face Harvard (4-2, 0-0 IVY) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase on Saturday, Nov. 22nd. The Terriers are looking to snap an eight-game losing streak to Harvard, this time at a neutral site.
BU is coming off a 54-49 loss to Columbia and now has lost two straight. The Terriers are still battling injuries, with only six players suiting up in the loss.
Sophomore forward Ben Defty was a bright spot throughout the game, notching a 14-point double-double and two assists. Senior guard Ben Roy also impressed, notching 13 points and shooting 71% from the field.
The Terriers will have to overcome the shooting flaws from last game, with the team shooting 31% from the field and 11% from deep. Freshman guard Chance Gladden, freshman forward Sam Hughes, and junior guard Michael McNair shot a combined 4-33. Despite their struggle, all three have a major impact on the team and hopefully can turn it around on Saturday.
Harvard is led by senior guard Chandler Piggé, who averages 16.7 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and 4.5 assists per game. Junior guard Thomas Batties II (11.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg) and sophomore guard Tey Barbour (11.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg) have also played a key role in the Crimson’s success this year.
Harvard is coming off of an 80-84 loss to Penn State on Nov. 19th but is entering this game as a team to not take lightly. The Crimson are 2-1 at home and away, respectively, and lead the Ivy League in overall wins throughout the season so far.
Harvard shoots the ball well overall at 47% from the field, but an even more dangerous 39% from deep, which puts them at 40th in the country.
The game tips off at 1:30p.m. from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT, and will be available to watch on NESN Nation.
