Gallery: Men’s hockey escapes late comeback from Merrimack
Outlasting a penalty-filled game and an attempt of a late comeback, the Boston University men’s hockey team earned its first sweep of the season with a 5-4 over the Merrimack Warriors. After a scoreless first period, junior defenseman Gavin McCarthy wristed the puck into the back of the net 36 seconds into the second period. Then, sophomore forward Sacha Boisvert found classmate, sophomore defenseman Cole Hutson for a one-timer in the right circle, and linemate, freshman forward Ryder Ritchie for xyz, in the fourth and 14th minute of the second period. Holding a commanding 3-0 lead, the Terriers took a slew of penalties, and the Warriors made it a one-goal game by scoring twice on the man-advantage. Killing off all penalties that overlapped into the third period, senior forward Owen McLaughlin scored in the 16th minute of the final frame, and junior forward Jack Harvey tacked on an empty-netter two minutes later. Merrimack clawed back two more goals, but BU held on for all three points.
