Looking to continue their season, No. 4-seed Boston University Field Hockey (6-10, 3-3 PL) will take on No. 1-seed American University Eagles (12-5, 6-0 PL) in the Patriot League Semifinals.
The Terriers’ 2025 season has had its highlights and challenges. While the team shutout and beat the then-No. 4 team in the country, the Boston College Eagles, they have also been shutout on six separate occasions.
The American Eagles are one of the teams that shutout BU, winning 2-0 on Sept. 19. Having gone undefeated in Patriot League play this year, American won their fourth conference regular season title in the last five years.
The Terriers also met the Eagles in last year’s Patriot League Semifinals, which ended in a 1-0 loss.
BU confirmed their spot in the Patriot League tournament on Nov. 1 when they bested the Colgate Raiders 3-2 in overtime. Senior forward Caroline O’Brien scored the game-winning goal, and also leads the team in scoring this season. She has recorded 31 points from 12 goals and seven assists.
O’Brien is the most recent Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week. She was also named to the All-Patriot First Team. Two teammates joined O’Brien in All-Patriot League selections, with senior midfielder Martu Coulo on the First Team and freshman Delfi Coulo on the Second Team.
Two other Terriers also earned weekly conference honors in the last week of conference play. Junior midfielder Maggie Driscoll is the Midfielder of the Week and freshman midfielder Molly Driscoll is the Rookie of the Week. Molly is second on the team in scoring with five goals and three assists for 13 points, and Maggie is fourth on the team with two goals and four assists for eight points on the season.
Despite posting a 3-7 record at home, BU has a better 3-3 record in away games.
As for American, they enter this game on a five-game winning streak. They boast an undefeated away record at 7-0, but a 5-3 home record.
Junior forward Jordan Reicher has recorded 27 points from 13 goals and one assist. She leads the conference in goals, and was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year as well as the All-Patriot League First Team.
The Eagles also boast the reigning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week: senior goalkeeper Pauline Gineste. She has started and played all but one game this season, and posts a 1.15 goals against average.
