For their fourth loss in a row, Boston University Men’s Soccer (8-7-0, 4-4-0 PL) lost against Lafayette College (6-6-5, 3-2-3 PL) in Easton, Pennsylvania on Friday night.

The Terriers ended the night with zero goals scored, losing to the Leopards 0-2. With one more chance to prove themselves on Tuesday before the Patriot League Tournament starting Nov. 8, the Terriers will be looking to earn themselves back their momentum as the stakes get higher.

“[We] dropped some games in a row here, but everything’s got to be moving forward and being ready for Holy Cross,” Coach Kevin Nylan said.

Although the Terriers’ offense struggled throughout the match, senior goalkeeper Ben Alexander was able to tally a total of four saves, with three in the first half and a final one in the second. This is Alexander’s seventh game of the season, as there has been much back and forth between himself and senior goalkeeper Sheraz Saadat to be in the starting lineup for each matchup.

Alexander’s four saves strengthened the team’s defense over the Leopards where their senior goalkeeper, Eric Axtman, was only able to tally one save mid-way into the second half.

The Terriers’ ability to only make three shots in the first half, despite having more saves and less fouls than the Leopards, led to their loss. Their lack of offense compared to the Leopards’ ability to come out strong at the very start of the first half gave them an early delay in gathering momentum throughout the match.

In the 13th minute, the Leopards forward Riley Martin scored a goal assisted by midfielder Samir Dishnica.

Not even a minute later, midfielder Samir Dishnica scored a goal assisted by sophomore defender Anthony Durling.

In the second half, the Terriers were able to record seven shots — more than double over the Leopards’ two. Four of those shots were split by senior midfielder Ethan Gill and sophomore forward Dylan Williams.

Although BU’s total shots at 10 outweighed Lafayette’s nine, the Terriers were unable to capitalize.

With more of a rush and attempt to score in the late second half, senior forward Alex Bonnington recorded two fouls in the 83rd and 86th minute, which got rid of any momentum that could have been gained back for the Terriers.

“We got to put this behind us,” said Nylen.

The team plays next against Holy Cross on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Nickerson Field to close out the regular season. Viewers will be able to watch on ESPN+.
