The Boston University Terriers (6-10, 3-3 PL) pushed ahead in overtime against the Colgate Raiders (4-13, 0-6 PL) during Saturday’s game at Tyler’s Field. This key win guaranteed the Terriers’ fourth seed spot in the Patriot League tournament.

BU had a strong start in the first period, with senior forward Caroline O’Brien scoring in the first minute following a penalty corner by freshman forward Molly Driscoll. O’Brien had two more chances to double the Terriers’ lead at the end of the period, but the shots went wide.

The rest of the period was scoreless, but the Terriers racked up 16 fouls.

The Raiders fought hard in the second period, attempting three shots before tying up the game in the 29th minute with a goal by senior forward Hannah Marcotrigiano, her first of the season.

BU junior goalkeeper Sophie Ortyl had an impressive save in the third period against Colgate junior forward Morgan Willis to keep the score tied at 1-1 through the end of the third period.

Colgate pulled ahead in the 55th minute, with Willis finding the net after two saves by Ortyl. BU junior midfielder Maggie Driscoll quickly evened the score just a minute later, right after a series of penalty corners. Both teams fought hard in the final minutes to end up on top, but the score remained 2-2 at the end of regulation.

Moving into overtime, the Terriers opened with a quick offense. O’Brien fired off the winning goal at the 45-second mark with an assist by senior midfielder Megal Wetzel.

This game was O’Brien’s fourth time this season recording at least five points in a game. Her record currently includes 12 goals and 31 points.

BU outshot Colgate 14-11, but allowed 8 shots on goal compared to the Terriers’ own seven shots on goal. The Terriers also had 12 corners to the Raiders’ three, which is the second most in a game this season for BU.

Ortyl made four saves for the Terriers, while Colgate’s senior goalkeeper Claire van Kempen stopped three shots.

This will be the Terriers’ eleventh time competing in the Patriot League tournament. They will take on the first-seeded American University on November 6 in Washington, D.C. Push back is scheduled for 11 a.m. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
