Boston University Women’s Ice Hockey (1-5-0, 1-0-0 HE) continues Hockey East play this weekend with cross-town rivals, Northeastern University Huskies (4-2-0, 1-0-0 HE).

After dropping their first five games in series play, the reigning Hockey East champions opened their slate of league games for this season the way they ended last year: winning.

“We changed,” BU Head Coach Tara Watchcorn said. “We were able to build momentum.”

On Oct. 24, the Terriers faced off against the University of New Hampshire and won 4-2, trading goals back and forth before senior forward Sydney Healey tacked on an empty netter to seal the victory.

That night, Healey led BU with two goals. Sophomore forward Kaliegh Quigg and freshman defender Lucy Theissen each scored one goal, with Theissen’s tally marking her first collegiate
goal. Healey leads the team with seven points this season, including three goals and four assists.

BU’s starting goaltender for the season is yet to be named. Graduate student Michelle Pasiechnyk and junior Mari Pietersen both started 3 games apiece this season, posting a .907 and .906 save percentage, respectively. Pasiechnyk most recently started against University of New Hampshire.

Senior forward Lily Shannon leads the Huskies offensively with 10 points from two goals and eight assists this year.

As for goaltending, both Northeastern freshman Renna Trembecky and sophomore Lisa Jönsson have played this year. Jönsson has started four games, while Trembecky has two to her name. They split time in goal last weekend when Northeastern was swept by the Quinnipiac Bobcats.

This weekend will be the 81st and 82nd all-time meetings between the city opponents. The Huskies hold a slight edge in the series, with 36 wins, compared to the Terriers’ 35. The teams have also tied nine times.

“We’re excited to play the best and see where we match up,” Watchcorn said.

The Terriers faced off against Northeastern five times last season: three times in conference play, once in the Beanpot final and in the Hockey East final. They got the best of the Huskies on three occasions, but lost 4-0 in the other two.

Northeastern boasts a perfect record at home, but has yet to find a win on the road.

The Terriers will face the Huskies at Walter Brown Arena on Friday, then travel to Matthews Arena for the series finale on Saturday.

Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Both games are available for streaming on ESPN+.
