Boston University Women’s Soccer (7-4-3, 4-1-1 PL) is getting ready for a Patriot League match Saturday against the American Eagles (2-9-3, 2-4 PL), celebrating Senior Night at Nickerson Field.
The Terriers look to capitalize on a shaky American team and extend their four-game winning streak, while the Eagles will try to pick themselves up after back-to-back Patriot League losses against Colgate and Navy.
Among the seniors being celebrated on Saturday are midfielder Mackenzie Stickelman and defender Helene Tyburczy, who both earned Patriot League Player of the Week for their respective positions.
With this award, Stickelman joins her fellow senior midfielder Giulianna Gianino as the only two players in the league to earn the award multiple times in a season. Stickelman logged three points in BU’s 3-0 win against Bucknell on Oct. 11 and scored a career-high six goals so far this season.
Tyburczy has been solid on the defensive end for the Terriers, helping the team to put up three shutouts in their last four games. She has started all 13 matches this season, playing the full 90 minutes in 12 of them.
In the net, sophomore goalkeeper Bridget Carr has posted a 0.800 save percentage and 0.73 goals against average in six games played, further strengthening BU’s defensive strength.
Senior forward Margy Porta was awarded an honorable mention by the Patriot League this week after collecting five points in her last three games, including BU’s first goal against Bucknell.
The Eagles’ offense is led by forward Jennifer McGuire, who has collected nine points this season after scoring the opening goal against Lehigh Oct. 4, helping secure a 3-1 victory for American.
Defensively, Eagles’ goalkeeper Addison Roemer has put up a 0.802 save percentage and 1.48 goals against average in 11 games started.
The Terriers are undefeated in 12 matches against American, winning nine games dating back to 2010. The teams last met on Oct. 26, 2024, a 2-2 away tie at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
At home, BU has won all seven matches, looking to keep their success up as they try for an eighth-straight win.
Kickoff for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
