Boston University Women’s Soccer (4-4-3, 1-1-1 PL) will take on the Lafayette Leopards (3-3-5, 1-2 PL) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Nickerson Field.
The Terriers are coming off their first Patriot League victory of the year after a gritty win against Army West Point. Lafayette, meanwhile, drew 0-0 their last time out against Bucknell.
The trip to Boston may serve as a reminder of Lafayette’s struggles against the Terriers, as the Leopards have never managed to even draw against BU on the road. The teams met at Lafayette last October and drew 1-1.
The Terriers will be looking to find some defensive form after allowing two or more goals twice in three conference matches so far. If they realistically want to repeat as Patriot League champs, defensive consistency would be a backbone to their identity.
Another critical piece of the Patriot League campaign will be home form — especially against an inferior opponent like Lafayette. It is one thing to be focused and cohesive playing a huge away match against Army, but being equally motivated for an early home kickoff is where champions separate themselves.
The Terriers will once again look to senior forwards Margy Porta and Giulianna Gianino to generate offense. Gianino, the Terriers leading scorer, has the most shots on target among any other Patriot League player this season.
Expecting a strong student turnout and a lively atmosphere for the Pride Game, the Terriers will likely come out attacking early and look to secure consecutive conference wins for the first time this season. Conversely, Lafayette would be thrilled with a draw as they look for their first ever point in Boston.
With kickoff at 1 p.m., the match will be available to stream on ESPN+.
