Softball: Terriers look to bounce back in doubleheader against Bryant
By Haydee Cepeda
Boston – The Boston University Softball Team (31-17) prepares to end its regular season in a non-conference doubleheader against the Bryant University Bulldogs (16-27) Wednesday at home.
The Terriers hope to return to the diamond on a high note after a weekend series against Lehigh in Pennsylvania. BU was able to secure one victory with a score of 5-3 but was followed by two losses with scores of 2-3 and 10-13.
Freshman outfielder Camryn Lyons helped BU at the plate against Lehigh, scoring two runs in the final game of the weekend series. She has also been helping the Terriers throughout the season with 14 RBIs.
The Terriers hold an 8-4 all-time record against Bryant, with the last meetup resulting in a 10-1 victory in Hartford, Connecticut. However, the Bulldogs have a three-game win streak when playing at BU, with their last win being in 2017 with a score of 4-2.
Wednesday’s doubleheader will be the Terriers’ first time taking on Bryant since 2018, and it will be the last time the two teams meet this season.
BU may be able to capitalize on its at-home advantage, with a record of 9-4 for the season. Bryant has not shown much luck when playing away games, with their stats at 4-16 for away games this season.
Despite not winning many away games and having more losses than wins this season, the Bulldogs are coming off of a two-game win streak in a weekend series at home against the University of Albany.
Outfielder Makenna Coleman helped Bryant clinch the wins with a walk-off single in game two and a batting average of .300 this season.
Also leading the Bulldogs in hitting are infielders Meaghan Houk and Sam Rohwer with batting averages of .378 and .342. At one point in the season, Rohwer boasted an average of .441.
Pitcher Grace McKillop has also been shining for Bryant, with a total of 10 strikeouts in her last four matches.
Looking forward after the doubleheader against the Bulldogs, BU will have a weekend series against the Lafayette College Leopards and then the Patriot League Tournament.
First pitch for the games are scheduled for 2 p.m and 4 p.m. at BU Softball Field. Streaming will be available on ESPN+.
