Softball: Terriers Look to Continue Winning Streak in Weekend Series Against Army West Point

Boston – The Boston University Softball Team (28-13) prepares to take on the Army West Point Black Knights (25-19) in a weekend series Saturday at BU Softball Field.

The weekend series follows two losses against the University of Kentucky Wildcats, several canceled games and a Wednesday doubleheader against the Stonehill College Skyhawks. The Terriers swept the Skyhawks with scores of 10-2 and 8-0.

Junior starting pitcher Kasey Ricard and freshman pitcher Ava Johnson both rose to the occasion in these wins, with a total of 14 strikeouts and not even a single walk. They boast a 2.01 and 2.48 ERA, respectively.

Junior infielder Megan Coyle and freshman infielder Kieren McHugh led the first game with 2 runs each. Sophomore outfielder Kylie Doherty led the second game with 3 runs.

Overall, BU outperformed the Skyhawks in batting by more-than-doubling in the number of hits. They also posted a 14-2 advantage in strikeouts.

The Terriers hold a 30-11 all-time record against Army West Point, with a current winning streak of 14. BU came out on top in a 2-0 win the last time the teams met in May 2024. The last time the Terriers lost to the Black Knights was in 2021, with a score of 4-7.

The weekend series will be the only chance for BU to extend their winning streak against the Black Knights, as the teams are not set to meet again for the rest of the season.

The Terriers have been strong at home, with a 7-2 record that was further solidified by Wednesday’s wins against the Skyhawks.

Army West Point has typically been stronger at home, with an at-home record of 10-2 but an away record of 7-8, which may give BU the opportunity to capitalize.

The Black Knights are also coming off of a two-game losing streak after facing Iona University in a doubleheader. They were able to start the first game strong but struggled to keep up with Iona.

Infielders Ashton White and Leila Hurst have been leading the Black Knights in hits, with Hurst hitting a two-run homerun in Wednesday’s first game and having a total of 40 hits and 18 runs for the season. White holds a batting average of .386, with 56 hits and 27 runs this season.

The weekend series will give BU a chance to rebuild a winning streak within less than a month for the Patriot League Tournament, which the Terriers won last year.

First pitch on Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for 12 p.m. at BU Softball Field.
