Softball: Terriers Set to Face BC in the Battle of Comm Ave
By Grace Robbins
The Boston University Softball Team (25-11) will face the Boston College Eagles (17-18) on Tuesday in a cross-town rivalry matchup at Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton.
This game marks the latest chapter in the storied rivalry between BU and BC. The all-time series is tightly contested, with BU holding a narrow 27-26 edge.
The Terriers have dominated recent matchups against the Eagles, winning the last seven, including their most recent tilt in February.
The teams last faced off in February at the Florida Gulf Coast University Classic, where BU earned a 3-0 win behind a strong outing from junior pitcher Kasey Ricard.
Ricard allowed just four hits and secured her first win of the season, while BC sophomore pitcher Kelly Colleran took her first loss.
Tuesday’s game is the second and final matchup between the Terriers and the Eagles this season. A BU win would clinch a season sweep and extend the Terriers’ dominance in the rivalry.
The Terriers have been strong on the road, posting a 12-7 record away from the BU Softball Field. Most recently, BU swept Holy Cross in a three-game series in Worcester, including a 14-hit performance in the final game on Sunday.
In that win, sophomore infielder Libby Walsh and junior pitcher Olivia DeLong each tallied three hits. Junior infielder Megan Coyle added her fourth home run of the season in the win as well.
Ricard improved to 17-7 on the season, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out four.
Meanwhile, BC is looking to rebound from an 11-2 loss to Villanova University on Sunday.
Zoe Hines and Gator Robinson supplied the lone offensive spark in BC’s loss to Villanova — each launching a home run to account for the team’s only runs.
Freshman pitcher Bailey Kendziorski took the loss for the Eagles, falling to 6-8 on the season.
The Terriers will be looking to capitalize offensively against the scuffling Eagles staff. Of the five BC pitchers who have taken the circle this season, three of them have ERAs over five.
Brooke Deppiesse has the hot bat for BU, batting .434 with 49 hits on the season. Kylie Doherty isn’t far behind, batting .364 with eight home runs on the season.
This mid-season rivalry showdown gives the Terriers an opportunity to compete in a high-stakes environment. Despite the Eagles’ losing record, every matchup between these teams is a battle.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton, Mass., with the game streaming live on ESPN+.
