Women’s Lacrosse: Terriers Dominate in Their Second Conference Win

By Kasie Costalas

Boston University Women’s Lacrosse (7-3, 2-1 PL) secured their third straight win against Lafayette College (4-5, 0-2 PL) Saturday afternoon in Easton, PA.

The 17-8 win marked the Terriers’ second Patriot League victory, giving the team some positive momentum as they head deeper into conference play.

BU’s Hannah Tillier started the game strong, scoring her first of two goals within the first 47 seconds of play.

The Leopards answered Tillier with an unassisted goal of their own to tie the game, but the Terriers were soon able to extend their previous lead with four unanswered goals.

Five goals were scored by five different BU players in the first quarter, including junior Elle Stevenson, who tallied a total of four goals during the game, demonstrating their multidimensional offense.

After the Terriers’ 5-1 start, Lafayette opened up scoring in the second quarter when junior Olivia Kelley capitalized on a penalty shot.

The Leopards tallied another, courtesy of Olivia Hover, sending the Terriers into a 12-minute no-scoring slump.

Despite the lull in energy, sophomore attacker, Izabella Amonte, was able to reignite BU’s offense before the end of the quarter by ripping two penalty shots from the top of the 8-meter.

Amonte ultimately scored a career-high four goals on the day to help lead her team to victory.

The Terriers dominated 7-3 at halftime, but both teams kept pace during the third quarter, putting up three goals each. Tillier drove from behind the crease with a five-hole shot to score her second goal. Less than five minutes later, she completed an assist to Kendal Simms, who had a hat trick on the day.

With a four-goal lead going into the final quarter, BU completely dominated the last 15 minutes of play by adding another seven goals. Junior attacker, Jayne Feeney, scored the first goal of the quarter before Stevenson put her final three in the back of the net.

Sophomore Natalie Aiosa had nine saves in net, boosting her save percentage to over 50%. Junior Defender Siri Hodgins collected four ground balls and showed valuable speed coming out of the defensive end to round out the team’s effort.

Overall, the Terriers had seven goal-scorers for the day, showing off their well-rounded attacking end.

They also had nine more shots than their opponent and were able to pick up 29 ground balls to the Leopards’ 23.

The Terriers will resume conference play on March 29 when they host No. 24 Navy at Nickerson Field at noon in Boston, MA.
