The No. 10/9 Boston University Terriers (18-12-2, 12-8-2 HE) will look to give their fans a victory against the No. 6 Providence College Friars (20-8-5, 10-7-5 HE) in the final home game of the season on Thursday.
This match is the penultimate for each team, with BU going on the road to Vermont and Providence ending their season at Northeastern. The game is the final for the regular season at Agganis, where the Terriers have held a 9-6-0 record in 2024-25.
The game will also be held on this year’s Senior Night, where five BU students will be celebrated.
“It’s always a special night,” coach Jay Pandolfo said when asked what senior night means to him. “Really appreciate all of the guys…they’ve made an impact on our program.”
This will be a rubber match between these two programs, as the Terriers and Friars split a weekend series in February. Providence won the first game, 6-3, before BU won in a shutout the next day.
It will be a big matchup for both teams as the postseason approaches, with both the Hockey East and NCAA tournaments rapidly approaching. The Terriers hold the third seed in the conference, while the Friars hold the fifth seed.
Much of the focus for Providence will likely be on BU freshman Cole Hutson, as the defender currently holds the Hockey East Rookie of the Month title. Hutson has 33 points this season, including 11 during the Terriers’ eight games in February.
Also impactful has been Cole’s brother Quinn Hutson, who has led the team with 18 goals and 39 points thus far this season and is currently riding a five-game point streak. Co-captains Ryan Greene and Shane Lachance have each been key contributors as well, putting up 28 and 25 points, respectively.
BU will look for help against the Friars from their young goaltender Mikhail Yegorov, who has posted a .930 save percentage and a 1.97 goals-against average. Coach Pandolfo believes a large piece of this success needs to be good defensive play.
“I think it’s still a work in progress,” Pandolfo said. “When we’re determined to defend a certain way with all five guys, that’s when we’re at our best.”
Yegorov’s primary challenge may come from Providence graduate student Logan Will, who has led the team with 23 points this season. Forwards Tanner Adams and Graham Gamache are also players to watch out for, each having found the back of the net for double-digit goals this season.
Between the pipes for the Friars will likely be goaltender Philip Svedebäck, who has started 24 games this year. In his playing time, Svedebäck has posted a .914 save percentage to boost Providence to their winning ways.
“You’ve got to play a direct game against them,” Pandolfo said ahead of the matchup. “They’re difficult to play against…if you don’t, it’s a long night against them.”
The puck will drop at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. The game will be available to stream on both TSN+ and ESPN+.
